James Rosen

Painter's Statement:

How little of the world we notice around us. How very much goes unnoticed. In these little watercolour-gouache studies, TREPASSEY TRISECTIONS AND PARALLELOGRAMS, I have attempted to abstract certain qualities which might make us more aware and appreciative of "what" we see and also "how" we perceive it. These works are abstractions: To be an abstraction is to be an entity that exists: the existence of a "thing" is only one factor of a more concrete component of reality. Through abstraction we see clearly that outside of our skins there is something going on in the world which is independent of any words we give it.
